Why converting is easy for machines
Every unit conversion is the same move dressed up differently: translate what you have into one common base unit, then translate that base into what you want. The converter keeps the base units in its pocket — meters for length, kilograms for weight, bytes for data — and temperature gets its own little family of formulas.
No cancelling, no memorising factors. You type the amount, pick the two units, and get the answer in the same breath as the value. Hitting swap flips the direction, so round-trip checks take one click each way.
Rough conversions worth remembering
- 1 inch ≈ 2.54 cm, and 1 foot ≈ 30 cm — handy when measuring furniture in a store that thinks in one system while your room thinks in another.
- 1 mile ≈ 1.6 km — road signs from other countries stop being baffling.
- 1 kg ≈ 2.2 lb — luggage, body weight, gym plates.
- 0°C = 32°F and 100°C = 212°F — the two points the whole temperature scale hangs on.
Rounding happens in the display, never the maths, so flipping a conversion and back gives you your original number, not an 8.9999 embarrassment.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the same number give a different result in temperature?
Temperature scales do not share a zero point, so they cannot be solved with a single multiplier like lengths can. Each pair of temperature units gets its own formula, which the calculator applies for you.
What code does the data size use?
The storage of the file uses decimal multiples (1,000), while the operating system's drive figure will come from binary (1,024). The difference explains why your "500 GB" drive formats to about 465 GB.
Can it convert currency too?
Currency rates change hourly, so no fixed converter would stay honest. For money units, use an up-to-date source; this tool only converts measurements, which never change.
