How the day count works

The calculator converts both dates to a day number and subtracts. The weekday count skips Saturdays and Sundays to give a working-day figure, which is what project plans and employment timelines usually need. The month figure is an approximation (30.44 days per month) for the "how long is that, really?" moment.

The approach

Days = end day − start day
Weeks = floor(days ÷ 7), remainder in days
Business days = days minus weekends in the span

Worked example

From Monday June 1 to Monday June 15.

Total = 14 days = 2 weeks exactly. Business days = 10.

If the span crosses a holiday, the business figure will be slightly high — but for most planning, weekends are the main thing people forget, and this gets them right.

Frequently asked questions

Does it count the end day?

Think of it as the number of nights between the dates. For a 3-night booking that starts Monday and ends Thursday, it shows 3 days. For calendar-span questions like "how many days in February", the standard is also a subtraction, so March 1 minus Feb 1 = 28 days.

Why is the month number approximate?

Months have different lengths, so an exact "months and days" answer depends on the calendar. The calculator gives the useful average, while the days figure stays exact.

What about the days remaining until a date?

Set the start to today and the end to the target date. The total days is your countdown; the business days figure tells you working days left for delivery or contract purposes.

Days are counted by calendar. Business-day counts exclude weekends only; check holiday calendars for your specific case.
