About Countwell
A small site with a simple promise: the numbers you need every day should not cost anything, or ask anything of you.
The story
Countwell started the way a lot of useful things do: out of a tired Friday night and a messy kitchen table. I was helping my grandmother work out whether she could afford to move into a smaller place, and every calculator I found asked for an account, pushed a newsletter, or buried the actual formula behind a "get the full report" button.
So I built her one. A single page, no sign-up, no spam — just the maths, shown honestly, with the formula underneath so she could check it on paper the way she liked to. The next week I did it again for a friend who couldn't work out her paychecks, and the week after that for a colleague who wanted to know what a 0.5% rate difference would cost over thirty years.
Each time, the reaction was the same: not "wow, clever software", but relief. Someone's numbers stayed private, the answer came back instantly, and nobody tried to sell them anything. That relief is the whole product. Countwell is my way of giving it to more people.

How I build every tool
Three rules, applied to all 30 calculators on the site:
- It runs on your device. Nothing you type ever leaves the page. No account, no server-side storage, nothing to install.
- The maths is shown, not hidden. Every page explains the formula in plain English and includes a worked example you can verify by hand. If I cannot explain a formula simply, I do not ship it.
- It stops at arithmetic. No market predictions, no wealth coaching, no invented certainty. Where an answer depends on your situation, the page says so honestly.
Why it can stay free
Tools stay free, always. The site covers its costs with advertising on a few pages — ordinary sponsored placements that never touch your inputs and never see a number you type. If that ever changes, this page will be the first place to say so.
What I am working on
The site grows a few tools at a time, and the roadmap is driven by what people actually ask for. Tell me the calculator you wish existed, and it will probably be here within the month — the most requested tools always make it first.

Found a wrong result or a confusing label? Tell me what you were trying to work out. The most useful messages always start with the question the person was actually answering, and every single one gets read — usually at the same kitchen table.
