Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 5, 2026.
1. Introduction
Countwell ("we", "our", "the site") is a collection of free online calculators. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to every page of Countwell unless a specific page says otherwise.
The short version: your calculator inputs never leave your device. The site does, however, use standard web analytics and third-party advertising, both described below, and you can opt out of the parts that affect you.
2. Calculator inputs are processed on your device
All calculators on Countwell run entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are used only to calculate results on your own device, and are never transmitted to our servers, stored, or shared with anyone. This is a design choice, not a limit: we cannot see, log, or recover any value you enter.
3. Information we automatically collect (traffic analytics)
Like virtually every website, Countwell records basic technical information about visits, so that we can understand how the site is used and keep it working. When a page loads, our analytics system may receive:
- the page you visited and how long you stayed;
- the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your connection;
- an approximate geographic region derived from that address (country/city level);
- the type of browser and device you are using;
- the address of the site that referred you, if any (the "referrer");
- the date and time of your visit.
This data is used to produce aggregate statistics — such as how many visits a calculator receives and where visitors come from — and to diagnose technical problems. IP addresses are used for geographic statistics and abuse prevention. Individual records are retained for a limited period for these purposes and are not sold.
Analytics records are stored by our hosting and analytics infrastructure providers (including Cloudflare, Inc.), whose services are subject to their own privacy policies. You can read Cloudflare's policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
4. Cookies and local storage
Countwell uses the following categories of storage, which are standard for the services it uses:
- Local storage (browser only). Small values stored on your device to remember settings you have chosen, such as your preferred display currency and a consent choice. These never leave your device and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.
- Advertising cookies. Google AdSense and its partners may place cookies or use similar technologies to serve ads, including personalised ads based on your visits to this and other websites.
Our cookie banner asks for your consent before advertising cookies are used. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised using your browsing history.
5. Advertising
Advertising on Countwell is served by Google AdSense. Google's use of advertising cookies is governed by Google's own privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits, and its partners may use additional cookies and data for personalised advertising.
You can opt out of personalised advertising:
- via Google's ads settings at https://www.google.com/settings/ads; or
- through industry opt-out pages such as https://www.aboutads.info/ (US) or https://www.youronlinechoices.eu/ (EU).
6. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, we process data under the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests. For traffic analytics and site security — understanding how visitors use the site, improving it, and protecting it from abuse are our legitimate business interests.
- Consent. For advertising cookies, where we ask for your consent through the cookie banner. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies for this site.
- No processing is ever based on the calculator inputs you enter, because those inputs are not collected.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights in respect of any personal data we hold:
- Access — to request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Rectification — to correct inaccurate data.
- Deletion — to request that data be erased.
- Restriction and objection — to limit how we process your data, including objecting to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability — to receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Non-discrimination (CCPA/CPRA) — the right not to receive different treatment for exercising your privacy rights. California residents also have the right to know what personal information we collect, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell your personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 11. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because our analytics is limited to technical visit data used for aggregate statistics, and our advertising choices are controlled through the consent banner and the advertising opt-outs in Section 5, we do not currently take different action based on DNT signals.
9. Children's privacy
Countwell's calculators are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Some of our calculators (such as the grade and GPA calculators) are commonly used by students; they do not require, request, or collect any personal information, because inputs never leave the device. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Data security, retention, and transfers
Security. We use reputable infrastructure providers who employ industry-standard technical and organisational measures. Because calculator inputs never reach our servers, they cannot be exposed in the event of a breach.
Retention. Aggregate traffic statistics are kept for as long as they are useful for operating and improving the site. Individual analytics records are retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described in Section 3, and are deleted afterwards on a routine basis.
Transfers. Our infrastructure providers operate internationally, which may involve transferring data to countries outside your country of residence, including the United States. Where transfers involve the EEA or UK, they are made under appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
11. Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints about this policy or your data can be sent to hello@countwell.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves or as legal requirements change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page, and where significant, by a notice on the site. Please check back periodically.
This policy is a plain-English description of how the site works, and does not create contractual rights. For questions about advertising data, Google's policy and tools take precedence over this document.
